Project 1
MR MARTIN
This was my first attempt ,
Ghost house
hearst mansion
This was my first attempt ,
- I started off by cutting out my image using pen tool from this picture
- I intended to take a different approach and use my self in a seated position rather than standing
- I used pen tool to cut my legs to and vertically flip them in the water to make a reflection
- Along with that i used gaussian blur and brush strokes to create the shadow on the wall
- After making the shadow i did minor details on the edges where my legs meet the water to make it more blended
After the pen tool selection i copy pasted my image into the mansion on a new layer
FEEDBACK
- Resizing is needed
- Remove shazam from picture and use only yourself
After receiving feedback , i made the necessary changes and this was the final outcome
Also included in this was blending modes i used ,mostly soft light to brighten the picture a bit
After a second check for edges and etc , i moved on to submission .
Ghost house
- For this exercise we had to use pen tool to select a feature from another picture and transfer to a background
- after which we use blending modes to make a whole frame picture
Given images
process 1
was to use quick selection tool or pen tool to select and either mask out or copy paste the house on to the next picture which is the back ground

process 2
was to select the image of the ghost women and transfer it onto the same back ground with the house
was to select the image of the ghost women and transfer it onto the same back ground with the house
outcome
After adding the pictures onto the background i adjusted the blending modes and resized the ghost women and house accordingly
- The blending mode i used was multiply mode , screen mode and softlight
- Also added a adjustment layer to adjust the levels in the picture
- used pen tool to mask out the images
Recolouring
I couldn't make it to the class that day so i didn't attempt the exercise but i reviewed the recorded lecture and attempted the task given in relation to the exercise
Task
The task for the week was
- choose a black and white picture of either our own choice or the provided picture by mr martin
- recolour it using photoshop
Process 1
I chose my own picture for recolouring just because i could explore different ideas
the picture i chose was
i chose this because i usually found myself working with portraits a lot and that was what most of my designs and style were based on
Process 2
After choosing i opened the file in photoshop , and just roughly made a mind map of what i could recolour
Process 3
After the rough layering out i started with the main colour which was the skin i used different brush tools till i could get a good brush which i thought could easily be used in corners and etc
After covering most of the skin i changed the layer to multiply mode and slightly adjusted the opacity also
Process 4
I then repeated the process for all layers
I also used some other blending modes such as Overlay and Hard light
Process 5
After all the colouring and blending i added one layer of gaussian blur over it and handed for submission
Final Outcome
Feedback
- Is already good enough no need to make changes
- Start practicing next exercise
Hybrid animals
Task
We were given the task as project 1 , which was to create our own hybrid animal using the tutorial techniques
Process 1
Starting of i began with choosing a skin and an animal , keeping in mind the fact if it would work
Animal
Skin
I chose a bat because of the whole covid 19 thing and the skin to give it a scary theme
process 2
After finalizing the animal i started with displacement map and editing , the first step to a displacement map was to turn the image into black and white and save it as a photoshop file
like so , also add some gaussian blur
Process 3
After saving the displacement file , we reopen the animal image and make different layers if needed , along with that we add the skin on top of the image till where it covers the whole animal
something like this
After setting the skin and resizing , i converted the image to smart object and i added the displacement map
The final step after this was to add some feathering and adjustments layers
outcome
Feedback
Process 1
just like the process earlier , first i chose a picture and turned it into black and white and saved it as a photoshop file
Process 2
This time to improve the displacement map i layered out individual body parts to how the skin would look like in real life
like so , also add some gaussian blur
After layering everything out i added displacement to each individual layer and added feathering even some different blending modes , mostly overlay and pin light
Along with that i also used a soft clear brush to brushed up the edges

outcome
Feedback
- use more feathering
- maybe try a new animal
- use more common known skins
Alpha wolf
For my redo i used a picture of a wolf with the skin of a tiger , as i wanted to show alpha wolf , something with strength and fierce
