PROJECT 1 SELF POTRAIT
PROJECT 1
Self portrait
Through week 6 and week 7 we were briefed about our first project , which was self portrait we had to use one of our own pictures in a composition to reflect our character or personality to reflect ourselves in a composition.
Concept
I based my designs on my general basic personality, i evaluated my personality and interest to come to a conclusion of darkness. Describing my style of designs and my interest i set to make my designs on the darkness concept , however after a little thinking i evaluated that darkness as a personality is a pretty broad topic which will be hard to portray because of the amount of different meaning the composition can follow even though its specifically for DARK
so i ended splitting up my basic DARK personality into more specific terms and display a design reflection those sub parts , the sub parts were
DARK
- My first approach was a very subtle idea however it does come under darkness , i used this part to express a destructive feeling or habit that is stuck with and it just holds you down and effects everything around you
- My second sub part i made was more towards EVIL but NOT using any kind of disturbing imagery etc rather a more SUBTLE EVIL TYPE , something that at first glance does'nt seem much disturbing but the view it for sometime the real dark nature comes through.
- The third sub part i made was SADISTICNESS , darkness and sadisticness goes hand to hand , a sadisticness that does't cringe you out because of it being disturbing elements but rather a design that makes u uncomfortable , something that makes you either feel creeped out
- The fourth sub part was GORE AND INHUMANE , this sub part i intended to be straight up gore , something that right away frightens and disgusts you something that make your stomach turn
DESTRUCTIVE FEELING COMPO
This composition for the destructive feeling , i tried to keep it fairly simple so its easier to convey the message because of how broad destructive feelings can go , I used a very dim light photo with my protrait looking sad but also looking very used to it
I used the skin overlay to depict the feeling , the feeling grows inside you corrupting you , with chains representing the feeling holding you down in chains helplessly and the wall spread as the effect on the surrounding.
EVIL COMPO

This compo for evil reflection i portrayed myself as a half devil half human the overall dark composition with the obvious effects of devil elements ,( dark colour , looking very menacing , dark black scaly skin tone and the talons nail along with that the devil is mostly depicted pretty charming also , thus i added the wings do give that beauty vibe and the more curvy elements instead of sharp edges . So it doesn't look too scary but instead gives a more subtle view with a dark reflection.
SADISTIC COMPO
For this compo i used a pretty bright colour scheme, not really the sadistic colours , however that was my concept . The thought of pulling something / someone in towards me just to well YOU WILL BURN The picture i chose i intended to my face display the sadistic element the confident look just adds to the sadistic nature because i know im attracting without the other person even realizing what is coming in the future , Again the colour composition of the fires is not necessarily dark but bright and attractive contradicting with the sadistic face ,
GORE AND INHUMANE COMPO
First variation
Second variation
For this compo i went all out disturbing imagery to really get that point across pretty harshly . Me ripping my chest open just to expose the monster inside crawl out for me that was pretty convincing for gore but i still used a picture we my face looking super unfazed even though a normal person would be pretty cringed out , the red color is just taunting, the monster inside just adds to the gore concept , the whole compo i did i wanted to show straight up brutality, Like watch me rip my chest open and meet my friends which will do the same to you and i'm not even worried about it .
CONSULTATION FEEDBACK
In the consultation class a week before submission our work was analyzed by the lecturer , she gave her opinions on all the compositions , however she recommended me to move forward with last design because it displayed a mixture of all the design principles we have been taught . she also gave
me some improvements such as smoother lines.
FINAL PROJECT COMPO
Using the teacher's feed back i chose this design and made the adjustment and made it my final submission
REFLECTIONS
overall i found this project pretty fun partially because it was totally about myself and the was no restrictions as to what to follow just used all design principles the way i want to , the freedom to do so made it pretty fun and amusing , it also helped me a lot on finishing and color compositions as i had been lacking in those aspects before about which teacher told me in a consultation class.
Final design outcome: The good use of space is well noted in the final outcome. The effects speak for themselves of the kind of character you deem yourself to be. It is commendable that you ventured on mixed media for this design. The principles of asymmetrical balance, emphasis and contrast are obvious here. It is evident that you had understood and applied what you had learnt from the past few weeks into this project
OVERALL FEEDBACK
Research & Idea exploration: There is much exploration of ideas and it is good reading more about you in each one. You put in lots of thoughts into each idea to express yourself.
