week 5 lecture contained typograph using design principles and types of symbols which we arbitrary symbols , as usual we were asked to make designs using each of the principles.
SYMBOL
Arbitrary symbols are symbols that don't necessarily reflect the subject they are trying to convey and get their use and recognition through time from being used to represent a subject continuously , the mainly contain simple geometry and shapes
DESIGNS AND SKECTHES
CHOSEN DESIGN
I chose this design because of its simplicity but still looking complex , which can also be integrated with other elements easily.
FINAL OUTCOME WITH VARIATION
CONCEPT
Earlier during the sketching stage and choosing stage I felt this symbol was appropriate for my concept. The concept behind my design was a scientific hidden cult symbol , a symbol which is used for recognition in a scientific cult , the simples shapes mixed together to give complexity also represents the scientific part, with that the simple geometry also allows the symbol to be easily integrated into different art work and designs , which the cult uses to remain hidden but also easily recognizable by the members of the cult.
TYPOGRAPHY
Typography in design principles is using typography and letters to express the art work with the typography integrated into it , vice versa it is also using pictures and artwork to reflect the words and sentences.
DIFFERENT ATTEMPTS
for my attempts I used my own pictures and used different mediums to reflect the picture
FINAL OUTCOME AND VARIATION
I used this picture because of its rathe dark colour scheme and composition , to which I added the words EMBRACE THE DARKNESS , the semi mix between the words and the skin represent the embracement
REFLECTION
This excersise helped me understand the different how other forms of art like letters can be used in a composition and how different art work don't need to be related to each other to reflect something.
LECTURER FEEDBACK
Exercise 5: The words selected for the image are suitable.
The final arbitrary symbol shows much thoughts put into the design.
Use of Media: Relevant to the exercises. Finishing is neater
than before but still can be better.
Quality of pictures: Adequate.
Descriptions/Reflection: There is some improvement on
description of ideas and final outcome. You still have not numbered all the
visuals. Reflection is included in every week's exercise. Keep it up.
Lecturer's feedback: You still have not included the verbal
feedback that I gave during tutorial into the blog. By the submission of
Project 1, this must be done.
Overall blog: Since the last written feedback I gave you on
Week 3, I noticed that you have written a short summary for Weeks 3, 4 and 5
lecture topics but there should be supporting research visuals (do not reuse
the lecture slides visuals, search for your own to practise your
understanding).
