WEEK 1 TASK1

TASK 1 - WEEK 1

Contrast and Gestalt theory

CONTRAST THEORY

From what information i could gather from the lecture and sources , contrast theory is mainly based upon designs and art work which use different values , shapes and various elements like negative spacing / black and white or something like very opposing colours etc to make it a more interesting or eye catching.

ATTEMPT 1

for my very first attempt at I really wanted to think out of box , me being a musician this was what came to my mind, I wanted to somehow show how different the thinking of a normal person is compared to a musician or artist. After sketching I filled up some spaces to see if it was coming out the way I wanted it to.
after trying to put the sketch together with the black paper cut pieces I came to a conclusion that the design was overcomplicated and it just wouldn't work

ATTEMPT 2

keeping the idea from the last sketch I quickly designed a more simpler version of the design that conveyed the same idea , again I filled up the spaces and checked if it was coming out fine and it was fine.

FINAL OUTCOME

GESTALT THEORY

Again from whatever I could understand , gestalt theory is more psychological it refers to how our brain perceive different complex shapes and designs inside a bigger design .
Gestalt theory is based on five elements:
Figure-ground, similarity, proximity, continuity , closure.

FIRST ATTEMPT

Gestalt theory for me seemed pretty complex for me until I understood it , so I came up with this design giving a very simple message SMOKING KILLS , I got the inspiration while smoking at night and the sky was black so it hit me. filled up the spaces with marker to check

Changed the design a little to make it more interesting

FINAL OUTCOME

MY REFLECTION

I have been a science student all my years and all my family are also high physicians and maths teachers so I was really not very open with my interest but after sometime I got round here ,
The excersise pretty much helped understand and apply what I wanted to and how theoretical design can be .

LECTURER FEEDBACK

Exercise 1: There are some explorations found for contrast and Gestalt. Good practice, keep it up. Both final outcomes are interesting and reflect the two principles.

Use of Media: Relevant to the exercises but finishing could be neater, especially if ball point pen/pencil is used.

Quality of pictures: Adequate.

Descriptions/Reflection: There is more description found in the first exercise but less in the second one. You need to label and number all the visuals clearly so that when you describe each one, your reader knows what you are saying. Do describe how your design works to achieve a particular principle. Your reflection is noted but it would be good to include your learning experience for that particular week's topic.

Lecturer's feedback: Should include all the verbal feedback I gave during tutorial into the blog.

Overall blog: For each week's topic, you should have a summary of that week's principles and include some visual examples related to the topic so that your blog is more complete. For example, Week 3: Lecture Topic, Research, Exercise, etc.
